Hi, just arrived here. Bought the wife the above mopey to see how she gets on with 2 wheels, before committing to serious money only to find she is not keen on 2 wheels. Sky is a 2 stroker for those not familiar with this little beauty. I have good compression and bright spark. Tanks have correct fuel and oil respectively. Battery is fully charged. Not the done thing I know, but I had to prove she does fire - I sprayed quickstart into the carb whilst spinning the motor, eventally the quickstart did it's thing the the old girl started firing, not running obviously. I stopped after she had fired 5 or 6 times, mindful of the potential for running bearings dry etc.. Looks like fuel is not getting through to the cylinder. So, next step is removal and fettling of the carb. I know absolutely nothing about them and just need a little encouragement to help get me going. What product is best for cleaning it Any advise on setting it up so that once clean and reassembled I can adjust idle/fuel mix to a factory type setting? In anticipation .......Flatty

Thanks for the link JR, I'll have a look later after work , just finding my way around your forum, it all seems young, new and strange compared to the wee stained/smelling BMW biking forum I'm familiar with

LOL and BTW do you have any type of manual on this scooter? I helped a guy from England fix a problem with his in another thread in this section and his only manual was in Dutch! If you do please PM me.

The only manuals I have come across has been Haynes manuals on UK ebay at @gbp18.00- they unfortunately cover a whole pile of different manufacturers, so I don't believe they would be as 'in depth' as we would like. Saying that, I'll probably end up purchasing one soon- better that than nothing.

Man that's tough! Guess we're going to have to use the old google translator! LOL Since you read his thread then you are already up on the R/R on this scooter, it's very odd, badd R/R or unhook it no power to the CDI, very odd.
Manual or no manual I look forward to learning about this neat scooter.

I would guess fuel issues as well. One good place to start is making sure your fuel filter is clear. Also maybe take a clean cup and drain the carb bowel to see if you get any junk out of the carb. Those little carbs are very easy to take apart and clean. Its a good idea to have a small wire such as a guitar string to run thru your jets to help clear any clogs. another thing I might suggest is making sure your vacuum lines are solid and intact. Are you pre mixing or is it oil injected? Do you have a petcock on your gas tank?

Just managed to source a genuine workshop manual so thats o its way to me now. the scoot has a seperate oil tank so it's done internally. Not too sure about the petcock, its got one of those vacuum taps (same thing?) which works when I suck on the induction side - carb bowl tap drain screw loose, suck on the vacuum hose and fuel runs out the bowl - all seems ok. Watched the video supplied and will follow the same process with wires etc thanks.

Ive got to wonder if your getting fire with starting fluid, you must have a fuel flowe issue.

I'm thinking similar to you, however, charged the battery up and tried restarting after cleaning the carb and it's still not starting. Then did the quickstart thing again, as before it started firing, but not actually running - so having never tried this method on 2 stroke before, I am not convinced that she is firing at each revolution. Anyway, I've recieved a genuine workshop manual for it so will dig deeper this weekend (after the Rugby and Forumla 1of course

how is starting fluid different from gasoline?...i'm not a real fan of starting fluid...
and nope, the honda sky doesn't have a petcock, i know, i have one before. and it's a two stroke,,and dig this,, the oil is injected directly to the engine block to lubricate the pistons.,there is a tiny hole on the side of the engine block that squirts oil as you squeeze the throttle...clever idea.,i like it better than connecting it to the carbs just like the common gy6 nowadays. dude, check the pistons,, maybe it's high time to replace it....if you want to make a 2 stroke run better, replace the pistons every 6months....take it from me, been messing with 2 strokes for 15 years.

Hi Luke, ok so no petcock then (whatever that is Starting fluid - already atomised as a spray direct into the induction, mixed with diethyl ether - so should start anything really. Worn piston, yes I will replace it as they are cheap. Ideally first, I would like to get the old girl running/firing properly before forking out money on pistons - but as she wont start - just firing (seemingly erratically) It may be the way these things run though. I'm going through checking the cheaper electrical options first. Appreciate you input, keep it coming thanks.
