Well, Tomatoe season being over up here, we have a bunch of green tomatoes on the vine. That is my open invitation, every year, to fry up a bunch of Fried Green Tomatos . Now, if you have never tried this, believe me, you should. I will even give you my own secret developed recipe. Since I never measure anything, I will tell you the ingredients:
1 Part ritz vegtable crackers- crumbed up fine 1 part bread crumbs- crumbed up fine (I use my left over homemade bread) 1/2 part flour 3/4 part grated romano-parmesean cheese salt pepper rosemary basil Mix all of this in a bowl
beat two eggs with a little bit of milk slice some green tomatos dip tomatos in egg, coat with crumb mixture, dip in egg again, coat again with crumb mixture.
Fry over medium heat in extra virgin oil oil until tomato is soft and crust is golden brown and hard. Serve
These are delicious. It is not the common southern fried recipe. It is the McAlli recipe.
Now, it is rather chilly here today (the rest of the week is supposed to be nice). But when I can't scoot, I cook. This my family benefits from and they can't wait to eat grandma's cooking come fall. Since it is chilly here today. I have also decided to cook a batch of Ham and lenil bean soup. Not kidding you, this stuff is to die for. And very loaded with all essential proteins.
If any of you are ever up in my neck of the woods in Ohio, drop in. You know that I am going to feed you.
