Can I use red high temp silicone gasket maker to make a header gasket for the exhaust or do I need to get asbestos or something?

Nope Ernie it'll not stay way too hot for the high temp stuff, you need a good gasket. Lets look for a good supplier and put it in right, leaking exhaust can equal burnt valve.
