What is the maximum vdc reading one should get at the battery with engine racing on a gy6 150cc chineese scooter? I've seen a lot about minimum charging voltage, but I'm hitting nearly 18 vdc. Is this acceptable, or will it eventually fry my battery?

sarge 18Vdc is a little high. Do you have the headlights on with this reading? If so then you need a new R/R because the regulator side has gone bad. If that reading is without the headlights on then get them on and it'll probably come back down to the normal 13.5 to 14Vdc range. JR

I have see a bad cell cause things to go astray do you have a spare battery to try before spending any money? But yes voltage regulator could be the problem like JR says I'm just cheep so not to spend my money to easy LOL

Thanks fellas! Yep, that's with the headlight on and engine revved up. I changed the R/R and it may have lowered the charge voltage slightly but not much. Also, I almost immediately blew another headlight, plus the high beam panel indicator light. I then went back to the original R/R. Note: These R/R's are identical...lol. I also installed an auxillary R/R designed to prevent blowing headlight bulbs, (http:// .dratv.com/12vre2.html). So far so good on that one. The battery seems to be doing fine...plenty of power, and holding good charge, and barely warm to the touch after a long 50 mph run. Makes me wonder if this cheapo voltmeter I just bought is very accurate! Now I'm down again....vacuum activated fuel valve started closing up on me during operation. That's another subject altogether though!...he he.

Bingo! The R/R's I had been trying were the wrong ones. I ordered a different R/R that specified "for 150cc", and it solved everything. I guess the R/R's I had ordered before were not for 8 pole stators or something....still not sure on that one...lol.
