hi Folks
I just wanted to post this information, it may one day be helpful to someone.
I bought a couple of months ago a reverse trike Sunny 300cc. It wasn't starting. It had no spark. It took a change Of stator and CDI to get spark.
The scooter would start and idle, not very smooth but ok. Problem was as I open throttle it would run poorly and not exceed 3500 rpm and had no power I spent 5 weekends fine tuning the carb, adjusting the valves and ensuring there was no leak in vacuum tubes. compression was ok so I didn't suspect internal engine problems.
I was a bit stuck, I was starting to believe it was timing or a some odd valve issue.
My scooter has a 6 pin CDI and I switched two out without any change in terms of performance. The CDIs I bought said they worked for both 250cc and 300cc.
There are 8 pin CDIs for linhai that are more readily available as well. I decided before opening the engine up, I would rewire the connector for the 8 pin CDI.... I just did that and as soon as I connected it the engine ran like no time before!! The 6 pin CDIs that worked on this engine may have been discontinued ... Because I ordered 2 CDI from different manufacturers and they didn't work properly. Their timing was off and caused symptoms like poor valve adjustment and carb.
So Always be sure you have the right CDI

This sounds familiar to my problem now in 2016. Mine is a 257cc Linhai with a little coil that looks like it is for a 50cc scoot.
