Oh yeah, and if power flows TO the starter via the solenoid, there has to be a ground coming out the other side of the starter, and conceivably that ground is not what it should be -- loose, corroded, whatever? If you already checked that, please 'scuse my redundant advice. Yee haw, Ellpee gets it right again, maybe. The longer I hang around this forum the more all this mumbo-jumbo starts making sense to me. Questionable ground from starter to frame or wherever, seems like. Bummer about the bolt, though. As to charging, you sound like me. I get in the 13's at first, then in the -- LOW -- 12's once the fan kicks in. Been fighting that for some time, still no success. Last suspect in my case is poor connections down in the fan/temp sensor area, all a pain to get to. Might or might not have anything to do with your problem.

Go to Sears and get a set of EasyOuts. The broken bolt will come out easily.
