Spare motor

Yesterday I was comming home from a friends house on the scoot . About 3 miles from home I hears a loud " POP " and some loose change rattleing in the motor. Looking in the mirror I see lots of smoke. The engine dies out all together as I'm pulling off the highway. Tried to start the scoot and the motor spun like there was no tomorrow. No Compression. Called another friend and he came and saved me with a trailor. This morning I took the plastics off so I could find the problem. Took off the valve covers and checked if the rocker arms would move. They did with no problem. Next I took out the spark plug and Wow, the end of the plug was completly distroyed. Checked it for compression, None at all. I'm thinking that the piston is shot. Next Question is , I'm thinking that I'm going to get a new motor for a MC-250-B and replace the old motor with a new and then fix the old motor for a backup. Where can I get a new motor ? Might be down for the rest of the year.

Yep tvnacman, that's the plug. And I can imagine that is what I'm going to see when I look at the piston but you beat me to it. Can you tell me what was the cause of such damage ? I startred to take out the spark plug with the cheep wrench that came with the scooter but I ended up using a socket and ratchet and still had a tough time getting it out. When I got the plug out, the end of the threads had a lot of aluminum shavings on it.

there has been plenty of speculation , someone has suggested that I was running very lean , or I got moth balled in my gas . I think one of the valves broke and got smashed up in the combustion chamber . I was running a cheap chinese belt and it is warn , maybe it over reved . I did rebuild the engine, and it seems to have aluminum shavings . I put about 300 kilometers on the scooter I have changed the oil 3 times . I was planing to do the fourth change the belt , change rollers to sliders . However I went down and having trouble getting back on . The wife is drilling me to dump it . The scooter has every piece of plastic broken or cracked or scratched . On the bright side I did buy it in silver so duct tape matches well .
I will say working on the scooter is a pain in the BUT , however it felt amazing that I did a rebuild and it runs / ran . I have never rebuilt an engine , I can tell you its not rocket science . Take the motor out and put it on a table or bench . the motor comes out 2 bolts one nut, the rear shocks stator plug , engine ground and rear brake calipor . Have an extra set of hands and do not remove the rear wheel , pull it as a complete unit .
Look at the head in the second pic you can see the broken valve .
My scooter is a 150cc

Well don't feel to bad, my wife thinks I'm going to get killed out there with semis on the inter state. So she says " Why don't you just junk it and forget riding a scooter". My answer " Not on you life, I like my scoot and I'm riding ". Now I'm not much of a mechanic but I take it one step at a time. Plastics on a 250-B has a lot of screws, bolts, and clips. I take off one piece at a time and use pill bottles to put them in and then tape the bottle to the parts they came from. This helps a lot. As far as getting parts to fix yours, what did you end up getting?

This may be a good vendor for you, John, assuming you are a dealer, but I don't think it will help out scooterran since it looks like they deal with only the Honda clone engine in the 250cc department.

Can't thank you enough tvnacman, you may have saved the day. Going to make a call Monday morning to see if they have the parts. If they do I think i'll order them and get them on the way. I may need lot of guidence to get this scoot back in order but 1st. I need to know what caused this . I really don't want to shell out $$$$$$ every 10,000 miles. Not worth the money and time. Afriend of mine said that I could get a big bore upgrade that would make it a 300 cc , huuuuuum ! Now that's worth thinking about ......

Now is another question . I have the MC-54-250-B , 2008 model , are all my parts 72 mm as stated on the chart. I want to order the right parts the first time and not have the hastle of sending parts back and forth ?

Randy that engine comes with 3 different piston sizes 68,69,and 70mm and the 72mm piston is for the 300 linhai and can even be up to 74mm which makes it 290cc.
Tear it apart first just like on the rollers, don't guess because if you do you'll be like two other people I know and get the wrong parts. More than likely it's 70mm = 257cc. Smorkle tore his apart and found his to be 68mm and he bought the BB kit and had no issues.
