Today I installed a new fuel pump and fuel lines on my Linhai 257 Touring Scoot. I also cleaned the carb because of problems caused by old fuel. I gave it some new fuel and it started up just fine. Throttle response was also good but it took a little bit of adjustment to get the idle to calm down. Once I solved the idle problem I shut it down and brought it down off the center stand. I tried to start it up but no go. I put it back up on the center stand and it started up and ran just fine. I have the idle set so that the rear wheel stops running (approx. 1800 rpm). So I brought it down off the center stand once more while it was idling and it died again. And, of course, it wouldn't start while the rear wheel was on the ground. Has anyone seen this problem before?

I think something is being pinched when it is not on the center stand. So check around the center stand for any hoses and or wires that may be pinched when the center stand is up. Also check by the rear wheel by the shocks on top since the wheel will travel up when on the ground. Alleyoop

When you say touring scoot are you talking about the VOG 260 or the 250B?

JR, this may sound funny but I am not sure. How do you tell the difference? When I bought mine in 09 it was advertised as a Viper 260.

That's what I thought as well. When I looked over it this morning I thought perhaps the plug wire was getting pulled by the air intake tube. But I need to do a more thorough search to see if something else is getting pinched off. I'll check again tomorrow and let you know if I find anything.

Good luck I really think that is what it is, since it runs on the stand and as soon as you put it off the stand it dies. Has to be something being squished or pinched for it to only run when it is up in the air like that. Alleyoop

JR, I checked around the center stand and found nothing there. As for the upper shock area I'll have to look that over the next time I step into my barn storage area. I will say that I am completely frustrated over this Chinese scooter. I've had it for 3+ years and have only been able to put 400 miles on it. I replaced all the vacuum and fuel lines, adjusted the valves air-fuel ratio and idle, installed a new CDI and coil, new spark plug, cleaned the carb multiple times, etc. And I still can't depend on it to start and/or run consistently. I realize that these cheap scooters need constant attention but this seems excessive to me.

Just guessing at this point. Perhaps it's more to do with the angle the bike is sitting. When it's on the center stand and running, lift the front tire off the ground, transferring the weight to the rear. The only reason I mention this is you said you cleaned the carb. Did you take off the float by chance? If so, maybe it went back in upside down and is cutting off fuel just from the slight change in angle that putting it off the stand provides.

Very Good Wheezy, yes if he messed around with the float it may be set wrong and or binding when off the stand.
I have also seen one fellow had a bare wire on the choke and when it was just tilted a little it would kill the motor due to the wire making contact with the engine case and grounding it out. Alleyuoop

This time I didn't take the float off when I cleaned it. But The mouse issue may be something I need to check out. When I pulled the scooter out of the barn I found a mouse nest under the seat. I'll have to check all the wiring...didn't think of that.

As for the muffler I checked the air flow and it was strong. But I'll take a close look.

HAHAHA, Bummer, I bet those little RASCALS chewed on some wiring and it is grounding out. Check around your CDI, COIL, ENRICHER wires tied to the frame cause they would be walking along the rails and maybe stopped for lunch along the way. Alleyoop
