headlights and tailights not working By back2life (Read 1,002 times)

today my daughter wanted to ride her 50cc taotao. the battery was dead so we was jumping the battery from my car and while i was crankin on it trying to get it started...is when i realized i had put cables on backwards. i smelled something but didnt think nothin of it because i got it started and all lights were working. but after awhile of riding i noticed it had lost low & high headlight,tailight,brakelight,instrument light and the lil light on front nose that comes on when turning key. however the turn siganls (ft & rr) and electric start works. can someone help me with findin and fixin the problem??? i cant believe i did this!!!!

sounds like you fried the R/R with it burned out riding it blew all your lights so you will need to replace the R/R and all of your bulbs

thanks for the reply......so replace the r/r or the bulbs first? or just do them all at once? also where is the least expensive way of gettin these items? i dont mind waiting on them in the mail

i finally went after the bulbs....the headlight,tailight,lil small light on front nose an license plate ones are blowed. reading damn near bout 14.89 @ battery while running. regulator bad?

Put the meter on the battery and rev the motor up to around 4-5K if it is charging at 15+ the R/R is not regulating and it will FRY YOUR BATTERY, ideally 14.5-14.7 is excellent.

If it stays below 15 you should be ok.
