Hey everyone i had a few problems yesterday with the wiring. The problem was that i was missing a ground wire from the battery to me engine block. I got that fixed. But my 2008 lancer Venice still wont start up. Every time i hit the start button is sounds like the engine is turning fine but it wont fire up. Can someone tell me what to do to pin-point the problem.

First of all welcome to the forum. If you fixed a missing ground then that's a good start but the next thing is to pull the plug and ground to a good point and turn the engine over to see if you have a spark. If not then we'll go over the things that can cause that. As always the process of finding out why something won't run is a process of elimination. JR

One thing to remember, you must ground the plug to part of the motor, Valve cover or the head. The battery is grounded to the FRAME, then another wire from the frame to the motor. Many check for spark by grounding it to the frame which is wrong, because it the plug may spark on the frame but not on the motor.
Also make sure your killswitch is on the run position, you can always eliminate the killswitch grounding the CDI by taking the killwire OFF the CDI and see if you then have spark. If all the is good check the connections to your COIL make sure the wires are on nice and tight and not frayed. Also check the BOOT CAP that is the part that the PLUG SNAPS into, the connections inside to grab the plug may be broken they are not very strong. If still no spark then it is time to get the VOLT METER out and start checking Voltage. Here is the flow to the Spark Plug: Boot Cap, Coil wire, COIL, CDI, Pick Up Coil, Stator. Alleyoop

I checked all of the connections and they seem to be tight. Everything seems to be grounded. I looked at the CDI and it looks like there are two weirs missing. I don't know if this is how they should be or if i'm missing some weirs. Please let me know. Attachments:

ok you have spark do you have fuel and compression the easy way to check compression is to pull the spark plug and put your finger over the hole crank the motor over with the thottle wide open it should blow your finger off the hole for the fuel you need to check if you are getting it by pulling the vac line off the manifold and sucking on it with the fuel line in a container you should have fuel coming out the end of the hose

How hard should i press my finger in the spark plug hole because i tried that and my finger didn't move one bit. But after i let go i felt the air come rushing out

And i just pulled the hose out of the intake and fuel cane gushing out.

it should blow your finger off i will tell you to check the valves now as they mybe tight you will need to pull the valve cover and rotate the motor so the big hole in the cam gear is up and the two lines are even with the top of the head you should have .003 to .004 gap between the rockerarm and the tip of the valve stem

The finger trick just enough to block the hole, You need to hold the throttle WIDE OPEN when checking for compression so it sucks in as much air as possible. If you just felt a little pressure then your low on compression. First check your VALVES adjust them .004 inches INTAKE and .005 inches EXHAUST or set them both to .004 inches. Usually the EXHAUST VALVE tightens up and stays open and you loose compression so check the valves out first. Alleyoop

yes i have them both of the valves adjusted to .oo4 and i should mention that i replaced the head with a new one. Every time the engine is the the compression stroke, it sounds like air is coming out. And it sounds like its coming from within the timing chain hole. do you think that could be the problem. Or should that be the way that is supposed to sound.

And i just pulled the hose out of the intake and fuel cane gushing out. First of all your CDI is fine, no wires missing, some CDI's only use four wires, by your picture you have a DC powered CDI. Since you have a good spark ( good meaning strong blue looking spark, not weak yellow/orange looking) then the CDI, coil, stator pickup is all fine. Now let me understand, you're saying that you pulled the hose (I'm presuming small vacuum hose) off of the intake manifold fuel came rushing out? Gonna agree with the others on adjusting the valves but if you did indeed have fuel come out of the intake manifold then you've got a badly flooded engine and even possibly a stuck carb float needle? Please let me know for sure about this statement and even a picture of what hose? JR

he needs to check for pulse and ac cdi power . He cranked the starter with the engine ground missing and cooked the stator green ground . It may have fused itself to the other stator wired . He claims spark but is it good consistant spark ?
welcome to the forum scooter
