When I first got my scooter I knew that it had been somewhat neglected. That's fairly obvious by my previous posts. However, I DIDN'T know that it had a small oil leak. I've been keeping an eye on it and what started as a couple of drips under the bike when I parked it has grown into a full-blown mess. I now have oil everywhere. It's on everything from the underside of the plastic "console" between the footrests, the underside of the seat, the exhaust, the back tire...everything. I've kept a close watch on the oil level and it's definitely worsening. I've parked the scooter permanently until I can determine the cause of it. What's the best way to determine the source of the leak? Just a note of warning; although I've got some experience in electrical I'm a novice (at best) when it comes to the mechanical workings of the engine. Please be gentle

Check if it is the VENT HOSE from the VALVE COVER. That hose is a VENT for the CRANKCASE. It MUST NOT be KINKED or BLOCKED and it must be Tied up HIGH so if it squirts oil out it will drain back into the Valve Cover. A lot of us put a FUEL FILTER on the END of it and tie it up high on the frame. That way it is VENTED and the oil is stopped by the Filter.
Make sure you DO NOT OVERFILL it with OIL otherwise it will BLOW it out. There is YET another Hose and that is the TRANNY VENT TUBE as well so also check that hose.
Next if you changed the oil on it check that it is NOT LEAKING by the PLUG.
If its NOT one of the hoses and or OIL PLUGS then Clean it up and you will have to try and find where it is leaking out of. It could be leaking by where the HALF of the Cases meet. A lot of times the Bolts Need a little tigthen. But DO NOT CRANK on the Bolts it is Alumium and you can strip them JUST A NICE SNUGEING of the Bolts. Alleyoop
