the triger coil is mounted outside the flywheel . I have heard the spacing of the coil to the flywheel can effect the output voltage . If not sounds like the pick up/pulse coil maybe defective . John Pull the cover off and try this!!!!!!!!! John

Attach a wire to the negative battery, touch the threads of the spark plug and recheck for spark. John

its running again finally.
Im not sure what the cause was, but I replaced the coil, the cdi, and the entire magneto/pickup assembly and then it fired up.
Meh. I hate fixing something without ever knowing what was wrong in the first place.

Well since you have the old parts you can put in the OLD COIL and see if it fires up. If it does then put in the OLD CDI and see if it fires up. If those two makes it fire up then you know it was the PICKUP COIL.
And if those two are good Carry them in the SCOOT as spares. Alleyoop

so after a few days of testing, I cant seem to find the short.
The best thing I have found after rewiring the harness at the ignition, rectifier, headlights, and tailights, is that when the starter relay wires ( the plug, not the power to the relay or going to the starter) are plugged in, the fuse at the battery blows.
Does this limit me to a bad relay or starter or is it possible that something else is in line with this wiring?
I am horrible at reading schematics and trying to do my best, but its mostly guess work.
Any helpful ideas on what else I can test with a meter or otherwise to find the culprit?
