Ok so the scooter was running fine a week ago, went to start it the other day and nothing.. Checked the battery and its fine, and it will kick start.. But no taillights, turn signals or starter switch.. I checked the fuse and it was bad, replaced ir, drove a cpl hundred feet, and it popped another fuse... I'm pretty sure its a short somewhere.. My question is how do I race where it is and fix it? Thanks in advance and any help would be greatly appreciated..

Hey Sorry Prelude didn't see this, all caught up in the fire. OK since it will kick start and run OK we know the stator, CDI and coil are all good to go.
Now I'm also presuming the head/tail lights are fine when it's running they feed off of the R/R yellow wire and if this is the case the the R/R is good.
So that leaves us with the fuse blowing part which is the 12Vdc circuit from the battery with the fuse (should be a red wire)
Now this circuit feeds the following' brake lights/ starter relay horn turn signals fuel gauge volt meter (if it has one)
So here's where you need to start, got to open her up and first of all find the key switch which shoud have at least four wires ;
red = 12Vdc from battery black = 12Vdc feed from key switch to accessories green = ground black/white = engine kill wire to CDI
Leave the key off, put in a good fuse and unhook the black wires to the brake light switches, horn and flasher relay. Turn the key on Start the scooter with the kick starter and see if the fuse blows in a minute or two? If it does then you need to open up the harness and trace the red wire back to the battery from the key switch and see if it has any breaks in it or has rubbed to ground somewhere.
Now if you find nothing there then we'll need to test the key switch next and you'll need the old volt meter for that.
Set the meter to the ohms setting and then unhook the key switch and do the following;
With the key off put one meter lead on the red wire and the other on the black wire, you should have no ohms resistance or continuity. Now turn the key on and you should have full resistance.
Next put one meter lead on the green wire and the other on the black/white wire with the key in the on position, you should get no ohm resistance. Then turn the key off and you should get full ohms resistance.
Now also we will check to make sure the switch isn't shorting out to ground. Put one lead one the black wire and the other to the green wire you should get no ohms resistance with the key on or off and also check the red to green wire too again it should read no ohms resistance.
If all these tests are good then then it's time to start hooking things back up to see if we can find the short.
First hook up the black wires to the brake handle switches one at a time, you may even want to start the scooter. Press one brake and see if the fuse will blow, then hook up the other brake light wire and see if it'll blow with that one. If both brake handles will make the fues blow then you need to start tracing out the yellow/green wire that goes from the output of the brake switches to the brake light and to the starter relay. It could even be shorted out in the tail.brake light socket?
It's simple if you're blowing fuses then you've got to eliminate one circuit at a time. You'll find poor brass crimped splices in the harness and they are poorly covered and can easily ground out and cause these headaches.
Keep us informed, we're here to help.

It came within 20 miles of me. No injuries and it's out.

That's good.. A little too close for comfort I'm sure.. Glad no one was hurt.. I probably should have known about that.. But I haven't turned on a tv in over a week.. I've been trying to fix the baja, and installed a bbk on my jonway.. Plus other side jobs for other ppl.. Oil changes, tune-ups, etc..

Doing great and glad to hear from you. I go to Conway one day every week because my grand daughter is taking pitching lessons on the west side of town at the Field House which is by the west Wal Mart. Glad you're still here! JR

Yeah, I haven't been doing much with scooters lately, other than a ride to the store occasionally, but Have been learning ATV motors, I'm wanting to get another scooter, maybe a 250cc or so.. I haven't been in Conway much lately, except to make my snap-on payment.. They seem to always want money..
