Hello i was referred by a guy over on scootdawg. Said you guys were the best. ;D I purchased a 2007 yy250t-4 the other day with 126 miles on it. Already tore down, from my uncle, because the head gasket needs replaced. he said it does run and he rode it twice. I was just blowing out water. I purchased the whole gasket kit from scooterparts4less yesterday. And i intend on putting it all back together when i get it. This is my first scooter, and i have no idea how to time it or anything that needs to be done a certain way. Im not sure what oil to even use, or how much. But i do plan on getting it back together and changing the oil running it for about 10 miles and changing it again to make sure everything is clean. it does have the 257cc linhai forward engine.

Welcome Crittergitter, Good to have you on the Forum, not to worry on getting it back together correctly as long has it has compression and the piston, rings and crank are good it will live again. Alleyoop

Yep we do and welcome to the forum! Go here and click on the YP250 service manual as the linhai 257 is a copy of this engine; thescooterprofessor.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=ncmanuals&action=display&thread=265Page 103 shows how to align the timing marks on the flywheel on the muffler side of the scooter and the cam on the other side. Right above the oil fill dipstick you'll see a little plug that can be removed with a allen wrench and it exposes the "V" mark on the flywheel and of course you can see the cam and chain when you remove the cover on it. Move the cam very slow as the slightest movement makes the flywheel move a lot. The marks will not line up just eaxctly perfect but real close as the instructions show. Remove the spark plug before you start. Set the engine up just like in the pictures, take it apart and put it back together exactly the same, nothing to it. BTW tell whoever it was on dawg thanks and we are not the best but the greatest! JR

bahaha, Thank you very much. I noticed there looks to be something missing on the drivers side of the engine at the bottom. its a recessed hole. Does the oil filter go here? and how would i go about getting one. i haven't seen any online, but haven't looked very hard either

No oil filter on the linhai. The only hole I know of is the oil drain plug. If this is what you're seeing then your oil drain plug is missing? BTW here is some actual pictures of the timing marks on the cam and the flywheel; JR

All depends? How many opriginal miles on this scooter? If it's broke in and you're just replacing the gaskets then I would recommend since you said you were going to change it after 10 miles for a good cleanup a 10/W 40/W regular oil, NO synthetic.
Then it depends on outside temps and riding habits. Myself in the hot Arkansas summers I use Castrol 20W/50W got over 10k on it. In the winter I go to a 10W/30W.
If it's not too hot then I would stay with the 10W/40W for now. It holds about 1-1/4 quart.

Good old common Castrol GTX motor oil in the white bottle, get it at Wally world. I would run the 20W/50W in this heat. At 126 miles she's not evedn broke in yet, the extra protection will help keep her cool and lubricated. Remember oil is cheap compared to a engine.
Also use Prestone 50/50 premix coolant in the yellow jug and we have a how to on burping the system. Don't understand why the water pump was removed unless there was a problem? Not necessary to remove it to pull the head?
