So what do you think Yoster? Any ideas? The radio in the pics is the stock radio. Here's a bit more news. I am able to turn the radio on and off with the dash control. Still no sound though.

Sorry - been busy. It's still hard to tell what I"m looking at in the 2nd two pics (i.e.: where these wires are all ultimately going.)
Quick question on the dash control.. what does that look like. Is it a pad-type unit? Is there some rectangular control box behind it?
My fear is that this might be proprietary to that OEM radio. Even in cars, it takes a $100 adapter to keep steering-wheel controls with aftermarket radios. Finding a unit to keep controls on a china scoot, assuming this dash control is digital, is going to be pretty hopeless I'm afraid. You'll probably be best wiring it all up yourself from scratch.
See if you can take a pic of this dash control and we'll go from there.

Yoster. The last pic is of the dash control backside. Not digital just a round knob. So I put the stock unit back in and wala the LED display now lights up and the tape player works. I have sound but no volume to speak of. Control knobs will turn the radio on and off but won't control voume. Not sure what happened there they used to work. Would this be a ground problem? Maybe thats been my problem why I couldn't get any sound out of the new one. I am wondering if I have a loose ground for the speakers?

Are you sure the speaker connections are tight? Mine were loose from the factory and I lost sound.. there were connectors halfway between the speakers and the radio unit.

Figured it out for the stock radio. The four additional wires control the volume adjustment from the radio. These wires are only 20ga. Do not use Scotchlocks on these wires as they do not work. I took them out and connected with regular wire connectors and everything seems to be working fine now. Not sure what I did to get the LED and the tape player working but for now all is good. There is an inline fuse on the power side that was blown but the radio did work so I didn't think to check it right away. Can't really see how that might effect the LED and tape player alone. Also the purple wire that grounds the speakers is wired to the frame on the right side above the muffler. Lot of lessons learned here. And I have all four speakers working again. Thanks for all your help.
