CDI Wiring

My bike just clicks the relay when I press the start button. It tries to kick--once--then has no spark. I have been tracing all the wires and checking connections, such as they are.. I replaced the spark plug and ignition coil and the battery is load-tested excellent. The starter is only a few months old and worked fine, until it didn't. It does spin off the bike with jumper cables. The relay sparks with a screwdriver across it and does not try to start..I saw no evidence of a short anywhere but the previous owner or mechanic spliced all the grounds and many other wires, which are nearly all 24 gauge. Have traced out the wiring and now I am down to this: I have a 5-wire CDI, red/black and blue/white coming from stator-- black/white and black in a coupler on CDI end -- the black/white and a ground wire (that is not really needed, the coil grounds itself), and leads to point where all the black grounds split, on the coupler ignition coil side--and a green wire. The last mechanic removed the alarm and spliced all the CDI wires to a 9-pin connector that leads nowhere. A friend was helping me one day and now I see that the green wire is connected to a dark green wire, (not sure if he did it or if that is the way it was originally) which in turn is going to the 9-pin, and when I trace this out, it goes into a coupler with a black wire connecting to a black/white and black wire and comes from the fat sleeve in the handlebars I assume is the kill switch. I would naturally think the wire leading to the kill switch should be connected to the CDI but I'm not used to seeing a green to dark green connection and besides, it does not make the bike go.. I posted a short clip on Photobucket but my camera chose this moment to malfunction and will not take still pictures now. Frankly, it's all I can do to troubleshoot the bike, let alone the camera! Please help!

Actually, here is the exact style, although the model number is a little different: .martinracingdealer.com/SPD/qj-97701b20t000--80000EE8-1236984284.jsp" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">.martinracingdealer.com/SPD/qj-97701b20t000--80000EE8-1236984284.jspI have a 2007 Yamati Eurostrada RX-50. Apparently, when Powersports Factory got sued they took every trace of them off the internet, lol! It's a two-stroke and though I have searched high and low, I have not found a manual or specs to match up. As you can see, with this 5-wire, there is not a connection for BOTH the ignition wire and kill switch. There is the ignition coil, the 2 stator wires, a coupler with black/white and black, and a green wire that matches the color going the the ignition, but I suspect the DARK green wire, which goes to the kill switch, is supposed to be connected somewhere because when the guy removed the alarm, he added a splice to that 9-pin connector..

Well maybe JR can help he is a WEZZZZZZZZ on electrics on the scoots. I will email him to have a look at your situation. Normally around this time he is making supper for the kids after he picked them up from school. So it will be a little later that he will come on. Alleyoop

Wow! Yes, that's it! I have found Stradas but they always turned out to be GY6. This says two-stroke right on it! Dare I get excited?

Ok first welcome to the forum. Now this has just hit me and I've got someone that I'm working with in North Carolina on a complete wiring harness install. We've got it running and going through the fine details now. Now I've not worked with the 2-strokes much.......but I've got several diagrams of them and may also run down a diagram on this one plus I need to take notes on all of your information you gave earlier. I'm also finishing up some homework with my grandson so it's going to be a little later before I get back and I WILL GET BACK! Don't give up on me and I'll holler back later. JR

sons , I can help you but I need your help . How many wires is that cdi , is it 5 ? do you have a meter ? I'm sure sprocket can help with this . I'm thinking changeing the cdi to what we use in the GY6 . Sons you will need a voltage meter to trouble shoot do you have one ?
