pcv valves usually dont go bad,in design they are a oneway valve that lets pressure created by crank rotation pushing pistons up for compression,when too much pressure is created beneath and behind the pistons in the crankcase it creates positive or excess pressure. While some pressure in the crankcase is needed, too much is counter productive,hence the pcv its for relief.a relief vavle essentially!usually attached to a vacuum line hose,and plugged into the valve cover they can be taken out and sprayed with carb cleaner
and blown out with compressed air.
