Been reading up on this and know some have tried it from way back, not personally myself but from what I read this is a cheap and not too hard way to convert a 6 and 8 pole stator common on a lot of 50 and 150cc scooters from AC to Dc voltage and for sure would be an alternative to a 11 coil stator install. The system uses a Trail Tech regulator/rectifier and can be found on their home site: .trailtech.net/index.html" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">.trailtech.net/index.html The regulator itself: .trailtech.net/7003-RR150.html" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">.trailtech.net/7003-RR150.htmlNow here are some of the things about this system and I have downloaded the PDF's to my server but I have not put this in the tech section as of yet: AC/DC Concepts Regulator Instructions Now from what I see one will need to isolate the lighting circuit as in it must be ungrounded from the frame and run to the R/R which would mean all lights one intended to put on DC and also you will need to put a seperate switch on the hedlights to leave off while starting the scooter. You may also have to run larger wire to the headlights and it looks like to me this system will run HID's with no difficulties and could be put on smaller 6-pole stators with good results. I think that if one changed all the bulbs to LED's and didn't want to run HID's they could use a higher watt headlight bulb instead as long as it'll tolerate the heat. Look it over guys and tell me your thoughts in fact are there any volunteers to do this? Pics will be a must! LOL JR

jr what about a 250 cc engine. Is it ac or dc:? I thought it was ac.

JR , this is very interesting . I did give it some thought , I did invision this , I was going the route of isolating the stator from the engine (electrically) and what is making ground to the stator as another power lead . The idea is to double the ac voltage peak to peak . (peak to peak is the higest point + and - ) and the battery acts as a great filter to smooth the dc .
Ps the regulator alone costs a few dollars less then the , 11 pole stator , flywheel and 7 pin regulator .

Mcalli to answer your question the 250 is a 3-phase 18 coil stator and is AC and rectified to DC just like a lot of scooters. Being it has more coils and is 3 -phase gives it a leg up on even a 11-pole stator and generally one has no issues with it. The CDI is even DC on your scooter and many have converted over to LED's or even put in higher watt bulbs to get more lighting successfully. Speedracer is in the process of doing a higher watt bulb conversion on his 250 and can't wait to see the results. TV you're right on on your accessment on how this works and yes the cost is less and should be just as easy. After doing some more reading and research I found out this. Most Chinese scooters the ones with an 8-coil stator already have a floating ground and have the two wires from the stator with AC that is needed to use this R/R to convert to DC. This is the wiring diagram of the Bali 150 and you can see it has such wires: Now here is a revised drawing with the new R/R in it and a couple of changes to make this work, the autochoke is now wired up to the black wire out of the ignition and works as soon as the key is turned on and the heads/tail lights are now on a switch controlled by the rider. So it's highly possible if you have a 8-coil stator you can make this kit work. If it's a 6-coil stator then you'll have to follow directions and change the stator to a floating ground and use this rectifier. JR

JR your a great filter , like in a rectifier , you got rid of the garbage .
gee I wonder if one could mount a flywheel to a brake rotor and attach a stator to a swing arm or front fork .
sorry guys I'm really out of my mind . Thinking out loud , spacers on axles rotating, swing arms fixed . My head hurts .

rain flap , tupper wear encloser . if you think about it one could use any set up it could be from a larger bike .
modding what you have is easyest .

Dang it now my wife will be watching all that tupper ware! LOL One could make it work but with all that power you might need to wear a rubberized suit if it ever shorted out! LOL
Seriuoly if you could line it all up you could do such a thing, I'm sure you will document it all for a good tech how to right?
