Sounds just about what mine does. I ride as often as possible, Summer, Winter, It don't make much difference to me. My temp range is very consistent. I checked my coolant level yesterday. I add about 1 or 2 ounces to top it off. I am now confident that this is just a characteristic of my bike in particular. Got a slight vacuum leak I got to track down. Other than that it is cruising beautifully.

Went for a 80 mile cruise today along twisting country roads. The weather here in Mobile, Al was beautiful. Clear sunny and 65 degrees. I just leaned back and road this Aelous 300 like I have been wanting to all winter. The scoot performed top notch. Man it felt good. I had been worried about the temp gauge but it did not overheat and was in a constant range. I had had some trouble with the bike but this forum and its members were at the ready to help. Now I look forward to a spring of riding. This bike handles like a dream and has brisk acceleration with way more than enough power. It is a pure joy to ride. I feel like a kid at Christmas.

Could be. I suppose different temp gauges read differently. The fan cycles normally. As you say that is the most important thing. I will continue to watch it. In the mean time it is time to ride. I'm loving it.

I found out this much. My thermostat opens up at almost the same time that my fan kicks on for the first time. When this happens my temp gauge is between half way and three quarters. This is consistent behavior. The fan then cycles and lowers the temp gauge to just below half way. This process repeats itself consistently. There is no evidence of boiling over or overheating that I can tell. Is this normal?. My other aelous 300 parts bike showed very little movement in the gauge even as the fan was cycling on and off. Maybe a erratic temp gauge problem i am having. What does it sound like to you folks?. Thanks.

Thanks alleyoop. I guess a thermometer is in order to check the operating ranges. What of the Gauge?. Does the range I described seem o.k.?.
Thanks.

I just changed the antifreeze in my scoot. I burped it as per the instructions given here on this forum. Before I changed it the temp gauge would reach above the middle range before the fan would turn on and lower it to just below middle range. After the coolant change the same results happened. I have read that as long as the fan cycles on and off all is o.k. My fan works as it should. Here is my question. What is the correct temperature range on this scoot and what is the possibility of a erratic temp sensor. I assume that as long as the scooter don't overheat it should be fine. Should I be concerned with the gauge?. At what temp does the fan cycle on?. The scooter is running just fine and shows no sign of overheating. Thanks folks.

After checking everything that could be checked including the 2 coils with a ohm meter, Checking all the grounds, fuses, 3 cdi units, I came up with a brainstorm. I figured the circuit was being broke somewhere and I had already checked item after item. I decided on a whim to remove the kickstand switch and replace it with the kickstand switch off my parts bike and what do you know it fired up on the first spin and purred like a sewing machine. Dang, Who would have thought the kickstand switch would go bad like that. I am going to buy another one just in case. I now have 3 good cdi units, 2 good coils, and going to a extra kickstand switch. I am going to do a full pdi while I have it apart just for the heck of it. Man Wish I would have changed it out first. Who knew. Thanks for all the help guys.

Maybe your kill switch is going bad? Its possible. But i turn it off and the bike wont turn over. I turn it on and it will. So it appears it is working at least on the surface. How would I test it or bypass it to check it out?.

Will do. I will get back to you, I did check the kill switch. It was the first thing I did. Assuming that the Item you mentioned are good is it possible that something in the dash is grounding out?. I say that because the left turn signal switch sometimes does not make up. I will initiate the left turn switch and it wont come on for several minutes later. Some times it wont come on at all. So maybe there is a short some where. Thanks

Well after several weeks of perfect running the scoot suddenly without warning died. It just quit. I was out on a very beautiful day just cruising. I pulled in to a parking lot to take a break. I fired her up and she just purred. I made a left turn in the parking lot and it quit. It fired up right away very weakly and died. It has failed to start since then. I have checked for fuel delivery and it is getting fuel. Checked fuses. They are good. Done the old spark check and it appears it has no spark. I have a aelous 300 parts bike that was running when I parked it so I took the coil off it and tried it in my scoot. Still no spark. I have checked all the connection that I could find they appear good. Now it is possible for two coils to be bad but as I said the parts bike was running when I parked it. I was gonna rebuild it. I have 3 cdi units that are known to be good. I tried all of those and still nothing. It will turn over but will not fire up. I am about done with these bikes. Its a shame because they are a blast to ride. I am clueless. I need some ideas folks and I appreciate any help you folks may offer. I am at the point were I may sell both of these bikes if I cant figure this out. Thanks.
P.S. The valves were adjusted about 500 miles ago. New fuel pump was installed as well.

A weird thing is that after checking the carb and carb lines as per alleyoop's instructions It done the same ole thing. I took it for a spin and really opened her up. Once I got around 65-70 mph she started spitting and backfiring. It done this for about 1 min or 2 then she just smoothed out and started running like a well oiled machine. That has been 9 days ago and the scoot starts first spin every time and runs like a champ. I had already adjusted the valves and changed the fuel filter and checked for air leaks and cleaned the air filter. Man this scooter could not run any sweeter right now. Don't know what happened. I am a happy camper now. It is cruising time.

It appears it may be getting gas from someplace else, Take the Vacuum hose going to your FUEL PUMP or PETCOCK(if the tank is above the carb and see if it is wet from fuel. Also check the ACV valve Vacuum hose, that is the SAUCER shaped Diaphgram near the top of the carb. Check that for gas in the Vacuum line. Alleyoop Dang alleyoop. You are awesome. I will report back on the results. All I want to do is ride. This bike is a blast to cruise on. I got to find the solution.

I have a problem that is giving me fits. The bike spits and backfires out of the exhaust several times before it will start. It don't matter if it is hot our cold outside. There is a gas smell surrounding the bike as this is happening. I have torn the scoot down and adjusted the valves to .003 intake and .005 exhaust so it is not the valves. I adjusted the carb air/fuel screw and checked for air leaks. I also replaced the fuel filter. It will slightly rev up and down at times. I can be driving along and it will be purring and it will go dead. It then will backfire and a few times before it will start and run good till it does it again. It will idle perfectly for 30 min then go dead and the process repeats it self. I love this bike but it is driving me insane. It has 3150 miles on it. Could it be the coil breaking down and not providing enough spark at times?. I also cleaned the air filter. I am at my wits end. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Classic valve adjustemnt symptoms. At those miles it's needing them adjusted. We have a how to in the tech section and you'll be amazed at how much better it'll run after they are done. Also welcome to the forum. JR Just a follow up. I completely stripped the bike. put new fuel and vacuum lines in, Checked and corrected all electrical connections (Some were a little loose), adjusted the carb idle and mixture, checked all bolts etc, Took manifold off and found a couple of very small cracks and repaired them with Mr Gasket silicone gasket maker, Bought a trickle charger and let the battery charge for 2 days on it, Took the variator cover off to examine my belt and was surprised that it appeared new, Changed fuel filter, Done a few various things, Put her back together and have put around 30 miles on it so far with no problems so far. Keeping my fingers crossed. I have a new cdi ordered just for the heck if it just in case it was the culprit all along. This bike is super strong. I am amazed at the power of this 300 cc engine. It will get away from you if you don't watch out.
