Test results.
I have an OTC DC powered inductive timing light. The timing light is hooked up to the battery for power and the inductive lead to the plug wire. The timing light does work.
Also I have a fluke multimeter with a Tach setting. I did find my inductive lead for it and tryed it. It also works. Read 1600 RPM on a GY6 150.
So my assumption of them working was correct.

Update.
I just talked to my rep at Ice Bear late yesterday and the release of the new model and the Magnum has been pushed back to sometime in May. The owner of the US Distributorship (Pacific Rim, Ca.) if flying out to China mostlikely this week to look at and test ride them to make sure they have gotten the bugs out before he will Import any more 300's. To me that says a lot about him and the way he does business. I have had emails with him in the past and seems to be a very straight up guy.

I think everyone is missing the point why nobody would help the kid out. #1. The KID does not know anything or how to fix anything( not a problem many do not know). #2. His FRIEND AND RIDING BUDDY has a problem with his scoot. #3. He Tells his FRIEND AND RIDING BUDDY he will fix it for $50.00 Bucks. #4. He comes on and describes the problem(which by the way is really an easy fix from he said happens). And says to hurry up with the fix and how-to so he can collect the $50.00 bucks. (Friends like that I and I am sure others do not need or want and I really think the KID needs a lesson on how NOT to screw your friends). My .02 Alleyoop I might be missing the point since I did not read the original thread that you are talking about. As with many threads, the whole picture is not stated and things are missing. Maybe there is more to the story about the money aspect, who knows. I stand by what I said about helping him, I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt until they prove otherwise. Jim

I have to ask Jim if he is sure. Have you used one Jim? If you are sure, I will break down and buy one. I did buy a tach that had an inductive pick up to cliip over the spark plug wire but it would not work and was returned. I want to be able to see what is really happening, not just what some salesman says will happen. As far as I am concerned a lot of "performance" stuff is mostly hype" Smittys really sounded great on an old 6 cylinder chvy but failed to show much on the stop watch. Again thanks a lot to everyone. cheers lefty2 It should work as far as a timing light is concerned. I have never had the need to use one on a scooter before but, I will go out today and check it. As far as a tach is concerned, unlike a timing light, most tachs need to know how many cylinders are on the machine. Now I have a tach mode on my multimeter, if I can find the pickup I will try it too. Never used that function. Jim

An inductive timing light is attached to the coil wire at the plug and flashes as the coil fires. It does not make a difference if the CDI is AC or DC powered.

ok jim question for u.
now , pretend u have been reading some kids posts, & its apparent he cant fix his own scoot. then he comes and asks for help because hes fixing his "buddies" scoot, for money. then it changes to some riding buddy, then it changes to just some guy. BUT he needs the help NOW because he charged this guy to fix it and the guy is coming to get it.
what ur opinion now ?
i guess im old fashioned i have morals & ethics & that is just wrong.
but again i dont care you all do w/e u want
o btw ask alleyoop he read all the 1st threads the guy posted. before he deleted the posts about charging the "guy". Since you asked me a direct question I will give you a direct answer. I would help him if I could. I am old, old fashioned to a point, have morals and ethics, but I don't think what he did/didn't do is wrong. I will explain my rational. Beyond what I said above. No matter if you are new at something or been at it for years, we all need help once and awhile. I have had competitors call me for advice and have given it to them, some in the same area, some close to me and others far away. Did they make money off of may advice? Yes they did. Did I make money off of someones Else's advice? Yes I have. I do this because I have been there, had an issue with a customers machine that I just can't figure out and need help from someone else. And yes both the competitor and I are charging the customer to fix their machine. I have a competitor ( automotive side) 6 miles away and we are always bouncing ideas off of each other. Not one person can know it all. If there is I haven't met them yet. Jim/Owner Rapid Repair

I'm going to echo Mauiboy and TV and see their points of view well. The attitude part like Maui said is a lot. Had this young man came on and handled this different or even been a long time member helping the scooter community it probably would not have been as badly percieved. But he joined with one mission and will probably never been heard from again and the way he did handle it I can see Terrilee's or anyone else like her seeing the real problem with this. IMO what he done was tacky and tasteless and most of the time people like that don't succeed even if they do get help. But I also see TV's point of view and support it also from several stand points. One TV is a good standing, helpful and contributing member trying to help people all the time and just for the pleasure of trying to help. He also is selling some parts and going the extra mile on them like testing to insure cutomers have a working product when they get it. Would I have a problem with him asking for help on fixing something should he decide to work on them? Absolutely not! We have others here that sell and fix scooters and contribute countless hours on lots of forums helping people just out of the goodness of their heart and because it's good business to help people. Would I have a issue with them asking a question? Absolutely not! But here's what irks me sometimes and this happens everyday. Some people sign up just to look at the tech section or for a manual and get what they need and never open their mouth, doesn't bother me in the least but the ones who sign up ask a question and get help or answers and then never open their mouth to let you know if their problem was fixed or what happened? I get upset some over that for two reasons, one it's just nice to know that they are going and this forum helped, two if they tell us what's wrong and whether it was a suggestion this forum gave or they found something else it's nice to know and it also can be helpful to another not knowing person on this forum or a future one that signs up and has the same problem. Knowing the final outcome can mean a lot sometimes. The last thing that gets me sometimes is parts sellers that are members, sell someone something especially the generic fits all stuff and when a person finds out the part won't fit or hook up without having some good basic mechanical or electrical knowledge to make it work are no where to be found when that person who bought the part from them is in trouble. Now I'm not talking about dealers who give good support at their store and over the phone but part sellers who don't know a lot about scooters especially the electrical and sell this fits all stuff when they themselves don't know how to make it work. Then we have these people sign up ask for help and they too the part seller is a member and they don't open their mouth. Am I going to tell these people to go to the parts dealer? Nope, just going to try to help them the best I can. That's what it's about to me. But when this happens it makes you feel so good. thescooterprofessor.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=chineseclassroom&action=display&thread=1170This is not about getting a pat on the back, it's just nice to see a person who came on and needed help with several issues just simply saying Thank You. $50 wouldn't touch the value of this. JR Very good points JR! I agree with you 100%! Not to blow my own horn, so to speak, but I consider myself one of those dealers you talked about giving support at my shop as well as on the phone. I also give advice on forums, All of this is free of charge. I enjoy helping people and get great satisfaction when my advice has helped them get back on the road. I was not born with all this knowledge, I had mentors and folks that helped me when I was young without charging me. This made me a firm believer in the saying, what goes around, comes around. I have had a couple people tell me I should charge for a Tech line. I just can't do that. It isn't me. Does it help my business? Yes it does! Word of mouth is the best advertising there is. I have sold some machines and parts to customers who have told me that so and so said I helped them and I was the "go too" guy. There have been some very positive comments made by other members about me and that just makes me feel really good. I wish I had more time to spend on the boards but, I do have to make a living too. hello alleyoop To not duplicate the issue in other fora only use proper Doc Forum Scooter Forum these agree Jordi WHAT? Please explain what you wrote I do not understand what you mean? Are you trying to say I should NOT duplicate what I wrote on ScooterDoc forum and INSTEAD put a LINK to that POST? is that what you mean? OR are you saying YOU duplicated the question on scooterdoc as well? I also duplicated the same info on this forum and scooterdoc. If I post something that might help someone or of interest on one forum and I also belong to another forum I will duplicate the information on both forums. The REASON is this, I do not like to just put a link pointing to another forum for someone to go and read and that is because FORUMS come and go. So if a forum goes BYE-BYE(closes shop as they say) the information is gone, the link is SHIT and USELESS and maybe even pictures if any were also put up. So by duplicating the infomation on other forums I am in good standing now others on that forum that still exists that the writer was SMART enough to duplicate can STILL take advantage of any information that may help them. ;D Alleyoop I do the same thing, whether it is answering a question or posting new information for the same reasons that Alley does it. Also, we learn by reading and not everyone is on all the forums, so info gets out more by posting on the ones I belong too. Jim/Owner Rapid Repair

Okay this is what I got back from Ice Bear concerning their PDI:
Hello Jim,
Here's a list of PDI that will be performed:
1. Change out Engine Oil to US engine oil 2. Tighten all bolts and nuts 3. Connect the battery and make sure all lights are working 4. Start the engine, make sure the carburetor and throttle cable etc. are adjusted to the best position. 5. Have the bike stay in Idle and make sure it idles ok.
Our goal is that when customer receives the bike, they can put gas in and ride. If a a customer picks up from our warehouse, the bike will be ready for fuel. However, one thing we're not sure is what the transportation will do to the bike. Will it make the bolts and nuts loose? We don't have experience in that area yet.
Thanks, Wendy
The cost of this will be:
50cc trike $125.00 150cc trike $165.00 300cc/250cc trike $210.00
