try checking the turn signals next if you remove the bulb you can push the wires through the socket to check them the spring that holds pressure on the bulb can come in contact with the wires and cause problems as they are cheaply made

you have something shorting out and if you leave it direct wired you can burn your wireing harness up and make things worst. the way i find a short is to take the ground wire off the battery and hook up a light bulbbetween the battery - post and ground the light will come on then disconnect one part of the wiring at a time if the light stays on reconnect the part and try the next until the light goes out that is the part of the system you have the problem in then trace it to find the short

there are diodes in the R/R that block current flow in one direction and allow it to flow in the other that turns the ac voltage to dc voltage it will be a pulse on and off so there are compacitors that act like fast drain batteries to smooth out the pulse to a constant current there is a chip in it that regulates the amount of voltage that comes out

Yes, I adjusted the valves. I was not aware of the woodruff key when installing the stator and am not sure of what it is. it is a little half round metal key that aligns the flywheel with the crank it could have easily gotten lost when you pull the flywheel off if the key is not there then the flywheel can spin on the crank and make the timing off
