glad you figure it out i was gonna suggest checking the sockets for the brake lights as they are cheaply made and can short out within them

have you check the starter switch it self as it could be faulty good luck with it and i am sure Jr has the wiring diagrams for both the Helix and Elite

you may want to replace your petcock as well if it is dumping feul with the motor off then the setcock is not shutting the flow off as it should

Alley cover it perrty good one other thing is to make sure the carb is level it self if it is twistedout of level it can cause problems

i agree that the voltage is aceptable but they are on the low side improving the current path with good connectors will reduce the resistance and will help the charging system to work at its best and you do have a good point to have everthing turned up so it fires up quickly is all ways a good thing and changing as many of the lights to LEDs will help

ok with the points installed you should be able to turn the crank and see them open and close the pike of the points cam is the point that opens the points the most feeler gauges are thin strips of metal that is used to measure the gap between the points you can buy them at any parts store

OK the voltages are on the lower side of what i like at the 5k rpms so what i would do is go through the bike grounds for the motor and chassis i would start at the battery and replace all the terminals for both side of the battery and then all of them on the grounds

just make sure the part that rides on the cam to open them is on the peak of the cam set with a feeler gauge and double check thethat they open and close add a little oil to the felt it will help keep them form closing up due to wear on the points

the reasoning for daylight savings goes back to Ben Franklin times during the spring the framers needed more time and help to get the planting and harvesting done and i like having to extra light in the evens myself
