Yeah, that's almost the same valve cover I have.
I finally grew enough testies to ride the scooter to work today, idle kinda rough but not as bad as when the cap came off. I was on the long stretch of road behind a a-hole van that almost ran me over (the ego trip some of these people have...) but the plus side of that was I was able to push the top speed almost at 60MPH, RPM still stays the same at 6100 or so... ((*
With all the issues that I had this past month I felt like the Lama from "Emperor's New Groove" when he was turned into so many animals and was very happy to turn back to a lama again...in short, I'm back to original situation on page 1 of this thread trying to get more MPH out of this pony...
On the very positive side, I have done so much on that scooter on my own that I'm quite comfortable working on it myself. ;D Well, as long as I don't have to open the crankcase which I'm still intimidated with that area.

Yeah, the bigger tubes are pretty much an "escalator to nowhere". I followed the big hose on the opposite side of the small vacuum line through and it just an left to just hanging there, not connecting to anything... The bigger hose next to the vacuum though goes to the area next to the valve cover where the recirculating pipe is.
I took it out for a semi-distance ride and after it being on a constant throttle the idle seems to be leveled off now. I hope all vacuum stays where it go or I'll have a sad scooter again...

[replyingto=extremejoy]extremejoy[/replyingto]After some "Superman Kung-Fu Grip" I was able to close it back like this... Now the idling is not as bad, seems to be leveled off but I'll keep an eye out if it will fell off again. To be honest I have no clue what that thing is but when it was off I can hear the vacuum sound coming from the small hole so I figured it's the problem...I think? Attachments:

I turned it clockwise almost 2 full turns and now it's idling around 1700 but it's really rough after the engine is warmed up. In fact, after the engine warmed up the whole scooter shakes during idle almost like it's misfiring...I'm going to look deeper into this but if you have any suggestions please do let me know.

Hey Alley and JR,
My scooter starts up with a quick touch which is wonderful. I found myself in a probably a minor issue, once the engine warms up, it will idle almost at 1100 RPM and cut itself off. Am I missing something or is there any area that I would need to focus to make the idle RPM to be steady at around 1800 RPM like it was before?
As always, any advice will be greatly appreciated.

I just put it on a tight .003 inches and the noise pretty much went away, I haven't done anything yet but eager to get this scooter on the road again to see what I can do to make it run better. To be honest I'm contemplating putting back the 13/40 gear ratio just so I can have the 7000+RPM back. But then again I'm pretty much open to get a BBK now as well, I've been looking during my down time and I believe 60mm BBK is the largest my scooter can go without milling or boring the crankcase out. My plan is: - 60mm BBK. - 58.5mm valve head. - A9 camshaft. - Still don't know which carb to get yet but I'm leaning towards 30mm. If you think the above equation is doable or not, let me know. I'm also may think about 3mm or 4mm stroker but that will require me to open a crankcase which I don't feel like doing. Yes, I'm lazy... I think if I do that mod above (minus stroker), I think it should be enough for the engine to push the speed above 6K instead of where it is now with my 15/37 gear ratio, right? I do have 1 major component that will stop me from all this though..."wife"...

Guys, the problem was the stator, now it starts right up! Now I have a question, now that it started, I noticed that the engine tick a lot, does that mean the valve is too open at .004 inch? Prior to me adjusting to .004, I think my original setting is closed to .003 so should I bring it back to that #? I'm just excited that my scooter starts! It's been too darn long... -p

Thank you for confirming my suspicion, I don't know where my volt meter is so I'll have to get a new one. I'll also look into a replacement stator as well. Thank you for your information, I'll keep you posted on my updates! ;D

I did both, engine head as well as the frame & I did it with 2 spark plugs & 2 ignition coils (stock & orange), I even switch 2 CDIs. All of them in different combination still have the same result which is no spark coming out, I even add the screw driver method instead of spark plug on those combination but nothing at all. Do you think it might be the magneto stator that needs to be replaced in order for me to get any spark at all? Or do you think it might be wire harness issue and I should replace that? I did leave the spark plug out since I did smell a lot of fuel smell while I was cranking as the piston pushes through the spark plug hole, I think engine flooding may have been part of the issue as well so I'm trying to eliminate that possibility. 1 more thing that I noticed, when I was shaking the clear fuel filter I noticed some loose black particles on the bottom corner of the filter, not much but enough for me to wonder if the fuel line is clogged...but then again I do smell a lot of fuel so I don't really know what to think on that one... For some odd reason, I have a feeling it's something simple that I overlooked, and if it's an easy fix, I would kick myself so hard stressing over this at this moment...well it is after all my first scooter so it's best if I learn as much as I can out of this situation.

I checked vacuum line and try to crank & see that there's suction on the hose so I think the compression is there.
I haven't taken out the carb yet but would you think that's the issue?
Also, I took the spark plug out and noticed it's moist almost oily by the thread of the spark plug, when I have the spark plug connected to spark plug wire and try to crank but don't see any spark on the spark plug, this method is what I do with my car to see if there's any spark to the spark plug but I don't see it, do you think it's the wiring or the spark plug or something worse?

I checked both, everything is in order and good, I flip the switch on the handle and the dash light goes on/off as if I were to use the keys.
You think it might be the carb? I'm thinking about pulling the carb out just to see since it's not working at this time.

Guys, I don't know why but for some reason my scooter just won't start, it will crank but won't fire.
I don't know why it did that, on Tuesday I was riding it and everything was perfectly fine. I parked it in the garage over night like usual. The next day I put some fuel on it to make sure I have enough gas to get to work & it just continues to crank but it won't fire up...
I adjusted the valve to .004 on both sides like Alley suggested, checked starter to make sure it's not drowning in oil and it's clean & dry, at least from the outside...
Should I check any specific hose or vacuum line? I want to check compression but don't know how...
Kind of stuck a little bit... D8

JR, I'm running stock variator, only placed Koso 11g sliders. I did purchased another variator that I weight the set and my stock one weight 75g heavier, I mentioned that to the seller and they said that this variator will not support beyond 6K RPM so I took it out and put the stock ones on.
