Hello all i am new to the forum. And found my way here out of frustration trying to figure out the wiring on this scooter. it is suppose to be a linhai copy i take it well any way i am in the south and man it`s hot and i would like to ride but no start issue that i thought scooter shop would fix told me it would be about 1,000 bucks to fix so here i am looking for salvation can anyone teach an old dog a new trick! by the way CDI is supposed to be new the shop installed it.also the stator is new 235.00 the shop installed and the starter is rebuilt by them everything else is original. sunny 300cc water cooled engine

I think a little more detail would help did and buddy do a compression test, did any buddy for spark, is fuel old if so did anyone clean carburetor if still for a few months. When it left shop was it running if so how well?

the scooter was not running when i got it but i know it did run i rode it before. my brother owned it and said it quit running after riding it one day. so i thought it would be simple fix. got it and put in shop because starter wold not engage. had that fixed. told the shop to get running so about a week goes by they call and tell me it needed stator i said ok. they get part install it no go. they tell me it has to be a short in the wiring so i suggest a harness they almost laugh me out of the place. scooters only so big what 5ft. long anyway. i seen a guy named Harvey spooner on youtube and what he did was amazing. he took a CDI and a coil and wired them together and touched everything that needed to be grounded or wired to stand alone CDI/coil and vahalia it ran. so i would like to get this scooter going using that princple that if you bring spark and tell it what to do CDI have compression and fuel it should run regardless of the state of the scooter wiring because time is of the essence then any other testing will not be a hinderence since it will run with the i call it external harness.the wiring harness from CDI has five wires four pins on top four on bottom. the bottom four are lft to rt. green/white blue/white green black/yellow. the top row has one black wire in the third pin spot thats from lft to rt. so what i wanna know is what each wire is going to so i can us Harveys theory to get scooter up and running. i know it has compression by putting thumb over spark plug hole and it blows your thumb off no problem when cranking over. looking at harness the locking tab is on top of CDI. thanks!!

OK you say you can test compression with your finger your the man LOL

First off get the battery on a trickle charger so it's nice and full,,,,pull the plug and put it in the plug boot and make sure it has a good connection hold it on a bolt or nut on the engine and crank it over,,,if it has spark then it's a fuel issue,,,,put a teaspoon of fuel in the plug hole put the plug back in and turn it over to see if it will pop,,,if no spark,,,check all the battery connections,,,especially the battery to frame ground strap,,that seems to be a big issue with these bikes,,,get back to us with results

Your description of checking compression tells me it DOES crank (you didn't specifically say that anywhere), so at least SOME of your electrical is working as it should. By all means, as others have said, check for spark next. If the plug gives a strong blue spark you can assume the ignition stuff -- stator, CDI, etc, -- are also OK, although since the stator has been switched out it's conceivable the timing is off. All good with the above points strongly in the direction of a fuel problem, or possibly valves way out of whack. When it cranks but won't start, does it at least try, as in fires once or twice, then nothing? Or is there no popping at all?

hello all i checked for spark a bit ago, pulled plug grounded on engine turned over no spark. so i have a multimeter and think it will be helpfull .. i am at the conclusion it is electrical issue just because the CDI was said to be bad when i got scooter. so the basic diagnostics are or have been performed but still no spark, that is where Harvey spooner from youtube made since to me to take coil/cdi hook toghter and ground and touch everything from CDI and fuel then ignition.scooter runs but also i can phase in each one of the compoents,to see where the short coming is.

As long as you have a multimeter check the engine to ground (frame) continuity,,

No spark will do it every time! So until you solve that no point worrying about anything else. Bad plug? Bad plug wire? Bad coil? Bad CDI? Several things involved in producing the spark, some more expensive than others, so in your shoes I'd start with the simplest and work my way up. If you tested for spark with the plug, pull the plug out of its boot and test from the boot (might need to insert a finishing nail or something into the boot to get the juice out where you can hold it near a frame bolt or something). Spark there, bad plug. No spark there, bad something-or-other further upstream, starting with the plug wire. Etc., etc. Just a process of elimination.
