I just finished the carb replace and it runs fine. But, how do we adjust the seat latch so it works somewhat easily.

After previous disassemble and reassembly of covers I have had the seat latch work reasonably well. A bit of a slam and it would latch. Today it was almost like never going to latch but with the quickest slam it finally did latch. So after several hard slams the latch works.

Is there something I could do to make it work with less force. Realignment, cable length, positioning, what ever and I will consider it. I don't remember such resistance to latching before. Latch position and orientation is keyed into the parts so not much help there.

Part two of this mess is how do I get it opened now. At first it took several hard slams to get it to catch. Then the key turn would release it. I did this three or four times then thought it was working, but real hard. Now I just went out and was going to look at the latch and alignment with the seat latch but now it won't release at all. I turn the key and it rotates a bit than a click, but no release.

Now I wonder what to do. I can lift the back part of the seat but can not see the latch or hook.

Push really hard or "hit" the area you know where the lock is while turning the key,,,once you get it open,,,on the seat side the lock hoop should be held by two screws thru "eyes" on the ends of the hoop,,,put a washer or two under those screws,,,that should ease up the situation

Thanks cyborg. Will keep that idea in mind. I have done some pressuring while turning the key. No luck with that. But now it seems like maybe the cable is no longer attached to the lock as it makes no resistance at all.

I will need to try to find the cable and see if I can somehow get to pull on that with pliers, or maybe get enough room so I can release the lock to be able to pull it outward. Not much room under those covers.

One of the solutions is to destroy the seat so you can get to the latch mechanism. I have no problem with doing that --- but, for the 50cc and up to the 150cc the seats are shown at about $50. Then when I see a seat for the 250cc scoots, they are listed at $360. Certainly there are some 250cc seats for less than this aren't there? I will keep looking for seats but if you know of a source of reasonable priced 250cc seats, let me know.

Seat unlocked and scoot back together, almost.

This morning I had all the screws on the left side panel removed so I could get a bit more flex of the lower edge. I also removed the trunk and put it aside.

I was able to look up but could not see the latch. By turning the key I could determine which cable was the release cable. I had a pair of vice grips to give the cable a good yank but could not get a good place to clamp on it. So I was busy pulling on that cable to see if I could stretch it to a better position - and 'click' and the seat lifted up. OK. I am done with the main problem of the seat being locked down.

Now I took all the screws out of both sides, unhooked the lighting cable. Lifted the covers to where I could see the lock. The cable had not been locked into the slot on the side securely apparently. It was no longer attached to the lock frame but still to the key lock. So I secured the cable. Put the covers back on. Then put the seat back on. And for now I have been busy shutting the seat, several times to get it to latch. And the key releases the seat just fine.

It seems that I have to bring the rear down first as I also push hard on the seat near the latch or it will not latch at all. This afternoon I will lubricate both side and rear locks to see if improved or not.

Anyway, I hope I am at some sort of victory place for a change.

I had a similar problem. The seat would not latch at times. The latch would close but it would not hold the seat down. I got some wd40 and sprayed on the latch. Now it locks and unlocks fine.

bobf,,,look at the frame mounted loop where the lock hook latches,,,,any way to put a washer or two under the hoop tabs where to the screws go thru to raise it a bit so you don't have as much trouble getting it to lock?

Actually no. I looked at this area before and for my scoot, much of that area is welded. Especially the seat can not be changed. There are two bolts that mount the locking mechanism but for right now, since I lube side and rear locks, it is working pretty good, so I will just leave things be for now.

Did you look at the personal message I sent to you? It has some good ideas regarding the seat latch mechanism. Good idea to lube the catch mechanisms. Part of the trick is to get both U hooks to hit their catch mechanisms at the same time. If it is like my Reflex, a cable goes from the key mechanism to the front latch and a cable from the front latch to the rear latch. If the front closes and latches before the rear catches, the rear won't latch... as you have already seen happen. There really are no adjustments to be made... (other than your closing technique perhaps) Don't ruin your seat, there are better, less expensive ways of dealing with it... if you must.

You are right about the rear latch and that is why I usually try to get the rear to go down first so both will latch. I think keeping the latches lubed is great for making them work easier and faster.
