Hey Guys I was riding my 86 riva 180 the other day and on my way home i started hearing a grinding sound and noticeable loss in acceleration. Now, the poor thing wont even idle without turning the throttle... Does anyone have any ideas as to what the issue is?
Ps I also think that i hear a screw in the muffler..?
HEEEEEELLLLLLPPPPPP!
Thanks a million in advance!

muffler could have collapsed inside choking off the exhaust,,,,pull the whole pipe and see if she'll run ok,,,it'll be loud but at least you'll know the engine is ok and you can figure out a pipie

Cyborg
Found the problem! it was the variator. Aparently, the previous owner lost one of the rollers and replace it with chopped metal dowels and epoxy resin. He also didnt use the correct size drive shaft nut which came loose and was the rattling noise i heard. I'm now going to install a high performance variator but was wondering if a 150cc would fit a 180cc..? does anyone know what the deal is with this? I'm glad i opened her up. She seems pretty simple to work on...
Thanks
