So today I cleaned the carb. And did a good job of it because she sparked up very vividly. As I was adjusting the mixture screw....I noticed that she wasn't holding her last position, due to the vibrations of the engine. How can I increase the tension on that screw that would allow me to set it, and then not have it move, causing the erratic changes in engine rpm? I was thinking Teflon tape? I remember this happening once before at a shop I used to work at,...but can't remember how we solved it. Thanks for any advice!!

I have a question HOW MANY TURNS from the closed postion do it have it set?? Reason I ask is if it is turned out 4 or more turns the Screw is almost out and there is no pressure on the SPRING. One way to tighten it up is stretch out the spring a little so it puts more pressure on the screw. Alleyoop

She is at 2 1/2 out now since I cleaned the carb. I was doing a little more research last night and found that lock tite made a purple brand that is used for that exact same purpose. It's not like the blue, and nowhere near the red.....just adds resistance. I'm going to try that today and see how I fair. I highly doubt I'll be able to buy a larger spring that will fit the screw.....so it's either the purple locktite, or gas proof Teflon tape.

I was posting on here hoping that this was a common problem, and that there was a good fix for it.

Clearly, I didn't mean spark from the plug. It was a figurative way of explaining how she was able to start so much easier since the idle jet was plugged up a bit. I'm sure you know...

Just a question are you sure there is a spring and washer on it?? If so stretch it out some so it puts more pressure on the screw. Alleyoop

Yup....spring and all. I'm just worried about stretching it and having something happen to it,...then not being able to find any other spring to replace it. I'll try my luck with a little stretch and see what happens. I'll update later and share what happens.

There are students here -- I was one a year ago -- who will miss the subtleties of posts like that one and be confused about carb<-->spark. Just sayin'. Consider ALL of your potential audience.

And YOU, the same ellpee. My gripe was with your delivery. Have some tactic when adressing someone in a social forum.

On a different note, I took my time....and stretched the spring. Was so worried about overdoing it, but the spring did seem pretty stout for what it was. Problem solved!!! Totally took away a lot of stress from this thing with a simple fix. Thanks to all again!!

BTW, I assume you meant "tact," and it's "addressing," not "adressing." I'm guessing you and I are not destined to be bowling buddies. Perhaps JR needs to ban both of us for being excessively thin-skinned.

No need to result to name calling. You were the one touting how there are new students on here, of which I'm one. Let it go pal. I'm just here to get, and give friendly advice.

GOOD JOB, sometimes the springs are as you said stout and they usually are but they may be a little to short in length so a little stretch is all that is needed. It could very well work on another carb it all depends on the depth from the threads and where it butts up to inside that the O-Ring And Washer seat. Alleyoop

What is important here is the scooter and it's owner are happy. It seems that all of the other can be placed as not communicating well and sometimes we all can work on those skills. I want to say that it is simply the way people talk sometimes? I'm from the deep and when I was in California this past summer people looked at me when I opened my mouth like "where did this guy come from" but by the end of the week they had me figured out! Or at least I think they did! I appreciate all of you. JR
