well would you 50cc guys like to be able to run an HID or two on your 50cc ? I think I have it figured out . Does this interest any of you guys or gals ?

I would like feed back on this before I spend time putting pieces together and spending the time .

I would like to hear what the nay sayers have to say .

IMO I don't see the practicality of it at least in my area? First of all 50cc scooters are far and few in between and the most of them are used in college towns to go from living areas to classes, mostly in the day time and the extra power not needed for lighting and for sure not needed for battery charging. 50cc scooter charging systems are good enough for battery charging and even with a dead battery one will not get stranded with a working kick starter.

Lastly 99% of 50cc scooters have only one headlight bulb and even if the lens won't melt with a higher watt bulb that can be supported by the 11 pole stator the extra light is really not that much better and if you're even using a 50cc at night in town extra light is really not needed due to town lighting.

Since Arkansas is a rural state you'll not see a 50cc scooter being rode for long town to town trips especially at night.

I see it as a waste of money and time here. My .02

That is not a great selling point , but some people panic when the electric start does not work . The dimming headlights problem would go away . The winter riders would be able to run heated gloves , depending on how much of a load they run with lighting they could use more heated clothing . Charging a cell phone or powering a gps .

Still don't see that here. Again very few 50cc scooters and we are not like some states, here you MUST have a motorcycle license or endorsement on your license so the riding a 50cc scooter because you like to drink and drive a vehicle and don't need a license or insurance doesn't work here.

The electric start not working will be to a poor battery and again on a 50cc with most batteries being at the 7A range the OEM stator does a good job and 11 poles isn't necessary.

Now I'm not being negative, maybe in some places it'd be a great idea but if I was riding in the winter, the last thing I would want to ride is a slow 50cc scooter! Brrrrrrr! Go faster get to heat quicker! ;D

hey John go to the 50cc forums and ask there I be will to bet there is quite a few that would be interested in it and any body that wants to go EFI system would be happy to have the extra power to

Yes sir. When it comes to the 50cc scooter 2T and 4T Brent is the man.

I know the norm with 50cc scoots out there, one doesn't need much.
But there is the handful out there that "need" more watts,
because riding a 50cc is the only viable choice.

For me- getting to downtown, 31-mi. away is now possible.
( No bus.)
Now, like most that choose a 50cc, I got mine to save money, Vs costs of ownership of a car/truck.

But the reasons for me was;
couldn't afford Insurance, fuel, & especially a loan payment at the same time.
So I went for a loan payment...
So, now;
fuel cost is low, loan is affordable, & no insurance is required. ( I do wear a helmet.)

But as expected, I'm without the extra watts that I need to help with such things as;
heated whatever, GPS charging, better/higher powered lights, & so on.

I do use a GPS ( runs it's own batt.), & would love to have better-brighter lights,
& during those really cold days (35° or less.) heated grips/gloves.

So, sometimes there is a need for more E-juice on the lowly 50cc scoot,
be it for warmth, better lighting for safety, or just for more power/tune-ability with an EFI kit.

I hope that we can acknowledge, there are some out there in a position where this is only ride to be had.
& the requests like this are not for some ridiculous & puerile pursuit of sorts.

I apologize if you feel offended JR, just wanted to give this a chance.

No sir you have in no way offended me and my comments were applicable to my area in my opinion and even then some here may see the need which is cool too. If I was doing what you are doing with the 50cc I would feel exactly like you do and by all means I would look to improve my system.

But I do stand by the look before you leap idea and will still tell you to open her up and be sure. From what I'm seeing the old 6-coil stator is being left behind and even most 50cc scooters now are 8-coil which even though better will still not match a 11-coil system. But if you were to open your scooter up and indeed find a 6-coil unit you could for in most cases go to a 8-coil stator and be plug in play.

If you go the 11-coil route, you have support here and if you do go with TV he's on the up and up with the 11-coil systems and won't take your money and then tell you are on your own.

Also I don't know the laws and such where you live and even though you are not required to have insurance I would check into just liability only on the scooter if you can find someone to write it? Why? At least here where I live one can buy liability and add medical for yourself that would help a bunch should you get injured even if it isn't your fault. I insure 4 scooters with liability and medical coverage for under $200 a year, just a thought.

Good to know your opinion on the matter.

As about the insurance;
I have looked into a few quotes on costs.
Just don't have the income at this time.
(Still wear the bucket though.)

Will have it when I go for my motorcycle license road test.
I'd like to be able to get rid that flag, & go legally faster.
