hello i was on my way to work this morning and i got a 1/2 mile from my home, the scooter shut down. I push the starter and it started back up but there was no head or tail lights. If you turn the throttle too much it will shut down, so i went slow back to my home. I started it back up no lights but blickers, horn and high beam works (high beam only works when you push the button to flash lights) I replaced the diode and the r/r before. do you think the diode went or something else. thank you ernest

I'd check all connections in your CDI and your fuses and connections to the fuse box, check the fuse in your relay. When shutting off, how did your scoot act, sputtering or just shut off without warning?

Hi Ernest. It looks like you either lost your R/R output or the fuse for the headlights is either blown or there is a poor connection at the fuse block where the fuse is. If the fuse has blown, you may have a problem in the headlight wiring. Work on the headlight problem first and see if this corrects the engine speed problem. Here's a picture of the fuse block located next to the battery. The connections underneath sometimes are loose.

This sputtering may have nothing to do with the first part of your problem, I'd check your vacuum lines and your intake clamps, check your ignition coil, they can work themselves loose and check the spark plug cap, make sure your getting contact at plug (I had problem with my scoot not wanting to start, turned out that the wire inside my spark plug cap was pushed aside not making contact). and of course if you have a lot of miles on scoot it may be time to adjust the valves.

i took the scooter apart and didn't find any connections loose and all fuses tested good. i put a jumper on the diode wires to see if the headlights would come on, they didn't . i took the r/r loose and added another one. No different, DO YOU think it can be the stator i have no idea....

If your scoot cranking over and charging good, your stator is good, (the headlights only come on after the scoot is running) I think the main control for the headlights comes through your R/R, check those ground wires. There should be another fuse in your relay, did you check that one out. Attachments:

No different, DO YOU think it can be the stator i have no idea.... Lets back up here and start from the beginning and see what's going on. She died and now won't run at full throttle. Your last statement of jumping the diode is a important piece of information. The fuse box the Cruiser posted has 4 fuses and one is dedicated to the lights only and is fed off of the red wire from the R/R before it goes through the blocking diode. This circuit ties in right in front of the blocking diode on the input side of it. The blocking diode prevents the battery from sending voltage back to the lights and R/R yet allows charging voltage to go through it to the battery. Jumping the diode does immediately turn on the head/tail lights even with the scooter not running and the key off. If you jumped the blocking diode and the lights did not come on then here's a list of possible problems: Dead battery blown fuse in the fuse box or very bad fuse connection very bad connection or broke wire on the red wire from the R/R to the battery very bad connection or broke wire from where the head/tail light circuit (usually a brown wire) ties into befroe the blocking diode and goes to the battery. Very bad connections on either side of the battery cables positive or negative (ground) and you need to check the cable where it attaches to the frame for sure. Since you told me that the lights won't come on by jumping the diode this is for sure a main source of all your troubles. Remember this is s DC type CDI and if voltage is poor or interepted the scooter will run poorly as well. JR

Thanks JR, I learn something new, didn't know jumping diode the lights would come on even if the scoots not running (there is so much to learn).
