Cruiser if I remember right he has a 150 Tao Tao? I also know of the electrical system you mentioned but it's not very common on typical Chinese scooters. The Kymco's use that a lot though.
But even with the relay wired to ground he would still have to have problems with the entire positive side of the circuit to have it start with no key in?
Of course it's possible that when he tried to start it this last time the relay fused together on the main contact terminals and if that did happen then the key switch doesn't matter.
But as I stated one can test for that easily.
Seems he's got multiple issues now with no spark added to the problems.
