It finally happened. At night, doing around 45MPH, took a small turn and straighten out and all of a sudden, darkness. Yikes! My high-beam goes out. Luckily, I just switched to my low beam and all was well. After 4 years and 15,000 miles my head light finally goes out.
So, here is where I need some help. First of all, can some explain how to get to the headlight? I have a manual but it does not show what needs to be removed in order to swap out the headlights. This is usually the time I end up breaking something because I'm not sure how things come out or off. A guidance from someone would be greatly appreciated.
Secondly, anyone have any suggestions on a halogen headlight that will not stress out my battery and the electrical system?
I also have a question about the wattage of the original headlight. One of my manual states it is 12V 35/35W and another shows 12V 60/55W. What does it come with originally?
Thanks in advance for everyone's input.

All good questions scooterich. I know several guys who have went to the xenon type bulbs and have better lights and they run cool and won't burn up your lense. Also on your wattage question the wiring digram for this scooter and the 300 says the system will support the 60/55W bulbs and some change them to that. On your manuals do you have a true 260 manual or is it the generic one like I have listed here for the 260 and 300 Linhai? Two manuaLs? thescooterprofessor.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=5200&action=display&thread=773If you do indeed have a true 260 manual/s would you mind if I could somehow get copies? Do they have a wiring diagram in the back? We work hard here to get true manuals of scooters to help others. I also know the linhai 260 has a good charging system and should support heavier bulbs with no issues and the only true way to know is to open her up and look at the bulbs. Does the 260 seperate the haeadlights like the 300 does? Some are changing that and we have a how to that shows how. Now as far as getting to them I'm betting just like with my 250B ya got to pull the fron cowling off and the parts diagram in the same manual section shows a front parts breakdown that is somewhat of a guide. I recommend you get some bags and mark each item and the screws that goes with each part and put it together for this first time take apart and taking pictures is always a good way to know how to put all back together for first timers. Just take your time and it'll come apart and you'll get her fixed. Again would you mind comparing your manual with the one here and let me know if yours is a true 260 only manual? JR

JR - Thanks for taking the time to reply. I will compare the manual that you have vs. what I have. I actually purchased mine from Sunright. It is on Microsoft Excel and it is very detailed - except for how to remove the headlight. : I guess I'm just going to have to dive in and start taking things apart. Taking a picture is a great idea! As an FYI - my headlight is the single lens in the center (see my profile picture). I would like to use this opportunity to get a brighter bulb and would love to have some feedback from riders who already went this route. Hopefully, someone will chime in soon. Thanks again for your input and keep up the great work you do with this forum. scooteritch Acworth, GA

All of the 250s we have upgraded to HIDs. No regrets and I feel much safer driving at night being able to actually see the road.

But if you were satisfied with your head light before and it lasted 15,000 miles why not go exact replacement? It sure is a lot less trouble with exact replacements over hearing what some people have gone through to get more light.

jct842 - I do agree with your statement. Less variables in the system the better.
I did talk to Jim at Sunright and he did state that I could use the Xenon bulbs as long as I did not exceed 55/65W. The old alternators only handled 35/35W bulbs. The new alternator (mine is 2006 and it has the new alternator) can handle the larger bulbs. So, I'm going to give it a try. I have been doing more night riding lately and I could certainly use the brigher lights.
