Well Jack, I am getting some tomatoes, red and yellow and a few cherry. The rest of the garden just hasn't produced. A lot of hard work for nothing. I'm really starting to get worried about the well. It hasn't went dry yet but all the trucks around here have a water tank in the bed and they are hauling water every day. Not a good sign. Like I've said before, I haven't had a measureable rain since March 3rd 2012. I've seen storms go north of me ( Alleys area , Windy City ) east of me ( Circle City ) and of course South of me , But it just keeps getting dryer here every day. There was no second cutting of hay. The clover is completly dead. ( The bees need clover to make honey ) The flowers of the plant are as brown as the dead grass in my yard. In my life time , I have never seen this. It is very frightning to see leaves die on the trees before the fall colors but hopefully the trees are still alive. The walnut trees usually start loosing there leaves in the middle of August but they started about 2 weeks ago . I don't care what it takes , Prayer, Dance , wash your scoots, cars and boats. I need help of some kind to make it RAIN , RAIN , RAIN .

August 5 th, This morning I woke up to the sound of thunder and lightning. Yes, it rained. 1 and 1/4 inch of water in the rain guage. I am happy as a lark singing in the medows. Why did it rain you ask ? I washed the car, scooter, and took my monthly shower and maybe some help from folks here on " The Scooter Professor ". Well, I don't know if that was the reason it rained , but that was the only thing I could come up with. Today's high is only 88 degrees with clouds. That will be a change from the high 90's. As soon as the garden dries a little, I'm going to start the fall planting, turnips , cabbage, and some leaks. Lets see what happens.

So glad for you Scooterran. We got rain again this past Thursday and Friday morning, not a long time but it rained hard. One more good rain and I'm going to plow fro fall planting myself, a little early yet here. August is always hot and dry here and we a still over 8" below normal rainfall. Still hitting the 100's and now with some rain it's humid. Went to Little Rock today and ran into a little 20 minute shower, that's the way they are scattered all over.
MY mower went down and it's at the dealer because it's under warranty and he needs to hurry, my grass is growing again.
Peanuts, sweet potatoes, okra, gourds and butterbeans still hanging in there and still getting a few peppers, tomatoes are done.
Going to plant fall turnip and collard greens myself along with some lettuce, broculli, cabbage and some more green beans soon.

Well folks the year's harvest is coming to a end, got one more apple tree about ready to pick and a ton of pears getting ripe soon. Picked the last of the watermelons yesterday, and had some yellow squash that survived the heat and are putting out another crop.
Soon it'll be time to dig the peanuts and sweet potatoes and I may get a few late butterbeans if it doesn't get too cold too soon, we have 40F weather predicted for tonight! Highs in the low 70's for the rest of the week. Hauling pine straw and piling up to cover my strawberries when the bad cold moves in.
I'm ready for the lawn mowing to stop! Been a good harvest year over all, had better had worse but I'm not complaining. As soon as the ground dries a bit it's time to plant the turnip and collard greens then enjoy the harvest until next years planting.

No actually MC it's still dry even though it's raining right now. When I said too wet it was just for a couple of days because the rain we had was a good slow soaking type rain. We're still over 7 inches below normal rainfall. Got my garden plowed this morning but now it's wet so I'll give it a few days, plow it again and plant turnips and collard greens. Spent most of the day canning pear butter and just finished putting it in jars. Eat your heart out you ole Yankee! JR

I spent most of the afternoon trouble shooting my lawnmower. Turns out when I kicked up a rock in the ditch the last time I mowed a pair of wires going to probably the transmission were cut and the main fuse was out. It tore up the drive belt too. I have a feeling I am going to have a handfull when I go to replace that belt. There is still enough of it left on there to mow with but it is not going to last long. I have a john deere rear engine and it don't look nice for changing belts under there. I did get most of the front and back yards cut before it got dark.

Electric fence charger works good, except for pigs. mine used to go right thru it. One day when it was raining I put 110 on it. after I was sure all of them got hit with the 110 I put the charger back on it and never had another problem. Small pigs and wire was about 14" off the ground. Haven't had any for about a dozen years or more now.
