Testing the Regulator - 6 pin By trailheadmike (Read 582 times)

So I learned that my battery is not charging. I've checked, and the voltage does not increase when the engine is running. I want to test my regulator, and found this video on how to test the diodes.



Unlike the guy in the video, I have a six wire regulator. here's a picture.

I read the wiring diagram to my scooter, and the three yellows look like they are the stator output, which will match the video. The green is ground, which leaves the red and the black.

Can anyone figure out which is the hot wire, and what the other wire is? When we know what it is, is there a test for that wire too?

Red = 12Vdc output to the battery to keep it charged.
Black = voltage sensing wire or what tell the R/R to send charge to the battery or to ground. In other words the black wire tells the R/R to charge or to not charge by the voltage reading from he battery.

You need to test your stator 3 yellow wires for voltage (AC) it could be a bad stator instead of the R/R?

Thanks for the reply JR. Certainly could be the stator. One thing I learned from you all is to test one thing at a time! the regulator is much easier to get to (takes less time/easier disassembley) so I figured I'd start there. There is another video that shows how to measure voltages coming out of the stator that I found that I'll use when I have a good block of time to take things apart.

Stator check (yellow wires) is simple enough, just check across all three possible combinations (A-B, B-C, A-C) for A/C voltage, should get more or less equal readings in each case. Could be anything from low 20's up to 50-60v, point being all should be the same.
