scooter wont stay running By cf1 (Read 6,211 times)

[img src="[/img]"]i have a 2008 wilfire wfh250t with less than 100 mile on it.. my son run it out of gas.. put gas in it and it will idle a while then die.. any help

First of all welcome to the forum! OK some questions?

Was it running alright before running the tank empty? When you got the scooter did you drain the tank, check at the hoses out and replace the fuel filter as part of a good PDI?

Now when you say idle are you saying it'll idle and just die after a bit or it dies when you try to give it some throttle?

At this point it sounds like a tank of bad gas and the idle or low speed jet is clogged?

Again welcome to the forum and if I can get this bit of info i'nformation then I'm sure we can fix the scooter.

i bought it new and it run good no problems dealer said all oils and etc was ok when they sold it . .since it ran out of gas i relaced the fuel filter , spark plug.. it will start and idle but when i give it throtle it will die and take 15 to 20 minnuts to start again. could there be an air pockett in the line? or vacum not pulling the cas up.. thanks for the help..

Welcome cf1. Sounds like some crap from the bottom of the fuel tank may have partially blocked the fuel delivery system. It's a good idea to replace the fuel lines and filter before putting the scoot on the road. This is part of a PDI which is good to do to prevent future problems.

There is a possibility that your carb may need cleaning, but you might want to check the fuel flow into the carb. Pull the spark plug wire off the spark plug. Disconnect the fuel line at the carb and start the engine and check to see the fuel flow into a suitable container. I'm assuming that you have a vacuum fuel pump, so you should see fuel pulsing out of the hose (not dripping). If this isn't happening you have to keep tracing back towards the fuel tank to see where the blockage is. Disconnecting the fuel line at the inlet to the fuel pump should produce a steady stream of gas. Blockages can occur at the outlet of the fuel tank, the fuel filter, or even inside the fuel pump.

thanks for the help guys as soon as i get a chance i will check the fuel to the carburater. but today i started it and it took full throttle after a few minnuts it died and wouldnt start untill waitng.. it was like i turnd the key off no gas smell or n sputter, just died..

hi guys, i drained and cleaned the gas tank. took the fuel pump off and apart and cleaned it.. checked all the vacum lines. checked for fuel going thru the line to the carburater.all is ok .. ithink its electrical and what ever gets hot stops the flow of fuel.. theres a electrical part on top of the carb , how do i check it. the engine will start and run full throttle for about 2 minnuts the die and not start for about 20 minnuts.. thanks

It sounds like it runs only when the auto enricher is working and when the needle extends shutting off the enricher circuit, the engine stalls. After the 20 minute wait the enricher might be cool enough to let the engine start again? An easy way to check this is disconnect the wire running to the enricher while it's still cold and see if it keeps running. If it does keep running, then the carb either needs a more thorough cleaning and adjustment or replacement altogether.

engine was cold took the wires of the enricher and engine still quit running... i would like to get a few more rides before i put it up for winter.. thanks

That has a vac fuel pump , the chinese vac hoses are very poor . From what you say it runs cold then warmed up it dies . The most simple thing to do is go get good fuel hose the correct size replace all the vac hose , hose clamp I think this will solve your problem . If it does not we can look further . I think when the lines get warmed up they leak vacuume. Every PDI recomonds vac and fuel line replacement . Lets get a good base to start from .

I'm a 1500cc guy however I have the same set up on one of my scooters . That scooter had the same problem with othet systems , like uneven idle up and down . The hoses made a huge difference . Then the valve adjustment was like night and day .

CF! the running,out of gas is a good indication there was some foreign material in the gas tank and it now has the carb partially clogged had the same thing happen on my wifes scooter. The low speed jet is partially clogged and you've got to pull it off clean all the tiny ports and such with carb cleaner and a air hose. Set the A/F screw on the bottom to 2-1/2 turns from the bottom and put her back together.

You have done cleaned and replaced all the other stuff and since the auto choke is fine then IMO it's a clogged carb. Electrically about the only part that will heat up and cut a scooter off is the CDI but you can find out one way or another quickly by simply pulling the plug after the scooter cuts out to see if you still have spark.

If you have a good blue spark then it's carb cleaning 101 no spark then replace the CDI. generally speaking though a faulty CDI will cut out after running awhile and not just when it warms up but again you can check this and I'm doubting it since this again started after running out of gas?
