I just bought a brand new Taotao Speedy. I uncrated it myself. Changed the plug to NGK, changed the engine oil, put on clear fuel lines and removed the vac actuated fuel pump and put in a manual fuel shut off valve. I capped the vac port on the carb.
Most of the time the scoot starts right up, but will not accelerate. If I rev it slightly for a minute or two, it will eventually go.
After a 10 minute ride today, it sat for an hour, then it didn't want to start or idle.
Where should I start?

Since it is a gravity fed system make sure the fuel line starting from the tank to the carb is going downhill , no ups and downs and or lower than the carb. Fuel has to flow down to the carb. Also did you adjust the carbs fuel ratio mixture, they set the carbs really lean and may not be getting enough fuel.
Another thing is some may come with the valve to tight in which case you would need to adjust both to .003 inchs. Also check to make sure you did not by accident hit the killswitch by the right handgrip, and the sidestand may have a killswitch on it as well in which case the sidestand has to be UP.
Pics of the carb area and hoses may also help in case we spot something that is not right. Lots of times vacuum hoses are not put on good enough and they pop off etc.. Alleyoop

Thanks for the input. The carb is lower than the tank and the fuel lines do flow down to the carb.
Tonite I adjusted the air/fuel screw. I did drill it out when I did my PDI. I also adjusted the idle after setting the air/fuel screw. Should I go ahead and order a new unsealed carb? Will it be more reliable?
Since it is brand new now 20km on odo, do you think I should set the valves? I watched a video and am sure I can do it, just didn't know if it was necessary already.
It ran great this evening. After it has cooled down completely, it will generally fire right up, but it won't accelerate without revving it for a bit, then it will go. I'll have to wait until tomorrow and try it again.
Thanks!
Troy

Must have been the A/F setting. Today it started and was ready to go right away. Thanks again.

If you want to fine tune the air fuel mixture follow this procedure, it is a step by step procedure. Symptoms that the valves are tight is after the motor gets nice and hot and you come to stops the motor wants to die unless you keep giving it throttle, or they might just die on you. Also hot they have a hard time starting up again until the motor cools down some. Alleyoop thescooterprofessor.proboards.com/thread/3001/4-stroke-carb-tuning
