I understand this is a scooter forum but most of the searches I found about the motor came from this forum.
I'm a DIY kinda guy. I'm a network tech by trade so troubleshooting is my middle name. Motors, not my strong point. Hoping someone can point me in the right direction for getting this motor started.
Here is a video of what I'm talking about. Linhai 260 not starting:
I pulled the spark plug and stuck it in another ATV and it worked fine. The spark looks identical but the motor never turns over. I got it to run for 5-7 seconds the other day by pumping the throttle half a million times. One day the ATV just quit. No ryhme or reason.
I think someone will suggest adjusting the valves but before I get that far I would like to know if that is a symptom of what the video shows.
Here is to hoping I don't sound like and idiot. :-P
Thanks,
Craig

First let me say WELCOME to the FORUM, glad to have you.
Just so you know it does not matter what it is a ATV, MOTORCYCLE, SCOOT, MOPED etc.. They all work the same way yours just has 4 wheels and different suspension is all, but under the skins of any vehicle they are all the same. The parts to perform a function may look and be a little different and function a little different but they all do the same thing even a car.
The Video is marked as Private will not play set it up so only who you display the link to can only see it. Not PUBLIC then everyone in the world will be able to see it.
After Cranking it over and over and it DID NOT FIRE ONCE JUST CRANKS OVER AND OVER take the plug out and see if it is WET with fuel. If it is WET with FUEL then the PLUG is NOT FIRING, IF it is DRY then you have a Fuel Delivery Problem. Alleyoop

Permissions fixed. I set it as unlisted... I hate technology. Ha.
The spark plug is moist but not sopping wet either. Idea on dampness I should expect?

Ok just watched the Video, Do the spark plug test HOLDING the spark plug on the motor. Sparking on the frame does not mean much. If the ground wire from the motor is not making a good ground it will not fire while in the motor. So test that first to make sure it is firing while in the motor. If it does fire holding it to the motor then stick it back in and Cover the Air Intake side with your hand some. Having the Air Fliter off is letting to much air and no fuel to be sucked into the motor. Alleyoop

Ok second Video shows it is firing. So now do this, take the spark plug out again and stick your finger in the spark plug holw and hold it nice and SNUG. THEN OPEN and hold the THROTTLE wide open and crank it. We are testing the compression IF IT HAS descent compression it will LIFT your finger off the hole. If you just feel some pressure then not enough compression. Alleyoop

The compression test scared me... blew my finger out of the hole with a loud boom noise. Otherwise I'm OK... test passed.

Loud boom BACKFIRE! Lets start by putting the FILTER back on it is getting to much air with the Carb Air Intake side open. Then do you know where the Fuel Ratio Screw is on that carb it should be UNDER the Carb on the INTAKE MANIFOLD side. Turn that clockwise until it stops and then turn it Counter Clockwise 2 1/2 turns that is more than enough fuel for the motors to start and run.
I did notice when you tested for spark that it was not a BLUEISH spark it was not a strong spark. So it may be a weak COIL not helping. But now that you just said about the fuel It is not getting enough fuel. Alleyoop

Being a farm boy I can tell you it was NOT A BACKFIRE. Just the sound and feeling of the noise against my finger. Apparently I'm a wuss.
I'm inclined to believe it's more likely a weak spark (even though it looks the same as another 4 wheeler I put the same spark plug into.) Would that be coil or CDI?

With that spark it still should fire and start right now it is not getting enough fuel. So put the filter back on and set the fuel ratio screw to 2 1/2 turn out. and then see if it ATTEMPTS to start. But a weak spark is usually the coil. Alleyoop
